August 2025 Class Action Settlements You Might Qualify For

Published

on

Companies settle lawsuits by paying out millions of dollars to consumers, and you could be one of them. They’re called “class action settlements,” which happen when a group of people (the “class”) sues a company for things like misleading advertising, privacy violations, or defective products.

If you qualify for any of the cases below, you might be eligible for a payout with no lawyer needed! Check out the settlements ending in August and file a claim before the deadline.

Volkswagen Atlas Seat Latch

Deadline: August 4, 2025

If you’ve owned or leased a 2018 to 2024 Volkswagen Atlas, you may be owed benefits. The second row seat latch in some Atlas models may come undone while driving, which obviously is dangerous for passengers. While VW didn’t admit guilt, they agreed to settle the case.

Qualified members can get:

  • Extended warranty: Up to 10 years or 100,000 miles of seat latch coverage
  • Reimbursement: Get 100% back on one seat latch repair
  • How-to guide: Get a manual and video to properly secure the seat

If you’ve already paid for a repair, you can get reimbursed, up to $645 to $1,700, depending on what was fixed and where it was done.

$150M GM Excessive Oil Consumption

Deadline: August 8, 2025

If you own or lease a 2011 to 2014 Chevy or GMC SUV/truck with an LC9 engine and live in California, Idaho, or North Carolina, you could get a cash payout from a $150 million settlement.

Certain GM vehicles were allegedly built with engines that burned through oil way too fast, and failed to warn customers. Qualified members can get a cash payment, estimated at $2,149 or more per car. There’s no claim form needed unless you’re in North Carolina, and you’ll have to mail the return form.

$4.5M GameStop Facebook Privacy

Deadline: August 14, 2025

If you bought a video game on GameStop’s website between August 18, 2020 and April 7, 2025 and had a public Facebook profile with your real name, you may be eligible for money from the $4.5 million class action settlement.

GameStop was accused of violating the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) by using a Facebook tracking pixel that allegedly shared your video game purchase info with Facebook without proper consent.

Eligible members can get $5 cash OR a $10 GameStop voucher. GameStop has also agreed to stop using the Facebook pixel to protect your privacy better moving forward.

GM Defective Shifter

Deadline: August 19, 2025

Another GM class action settlement! If you had trouble turning off your Chevy or GMC vehicle because of the annoying “Shift to Park” error, you could be part of this settlement.

Some GM cars had a defective shifter that caused a warning even when the vehicle WAS in park, making it hard or impossible to shut off. Yikes.

Eligible members include people in Ohio or Tennessee who were the initial purchasers or lessees of:

  • 2017-2019 GMC Acadia
  • 2019 Chevy Blazer
  • 2016-2019 Chevy Malibu
  • 2018-2019 Chevy Traverse
  • 2016-2019 Chevy Volt

(Specific models can vary by state.)

You could get $500 cash (split among co-owners if applicable) and up to $375 reimbursement for out-of-pocket repair costs. If GM already has a record of your repair, then you’ll automatically get paid. Otherwise, you’ll need to submit a claim form with proof.

$4.5M The Criterion Collection Subscription

Deadline: August 19, 2025

If you streamed a movie on The Criterion Channel between September 27, 2022, and December 27, 2024, you could be eligible.

The Criterion Collection was accused of sharing viewer data (like what you watched) with third parties like Meta and Twilio without asking for proper consent. The lawsuit says this violated user privacy rights.

You’ll qualify if you were a registered user or subscriber and watched a pre-recorded video on The Criterion Channel during the period listed above. Members will get a cash payout, but the amount is TBD as it depends on how many people file a claim.

FL and NY Gerber Formula

Deadline: August 25, 2025

If you purchased Gerber Good Start Gentle infant formula in Florida or New York between 2011 and 2016, you could be eligible for cash back.

Gerber advertised the formula as reducing allergy risk, but the lawsuit says there’s no solid science backing that claim, so consumers say they were misled. As is typical, the company isn’t admitting guilt but has agreed to settle.

Qualified members in FL who bought Gerber Good Start Gentle between October 10, 2011, and April 23, 2016, can get up to $15 without proof of purchase. Up to $60 with proof.

Members in NY can get up to $20 without proof of purchase. Up to $80 with proof.

$10M Torrid “Discounts”

Deadline: August 26, 2025

If you bought anything from Torrid.com while living in California, Oregon, or Washington between January 1, 2020, and February 18, 2025, you could be eligible for a $15 cash or store voucher.

Torrid was accused of deceptively advertising fake discounts, like showing “sale” prices that weren’t actually discounted. Shoppers say they wouldn’t have bought items if they knew the discounts weren’t real.

Eligible members can get $15 cash (check or e-payment) OR a $15 Torrid voucher (emailed and valid online or in-store)
